The Sacred Way of Forno Grande is a traditional event in the municipality.
The event attracts about 3 thousand people from various cities of the state, traveling a distance of approximately 8 km of great faith, prayer and spirituality.
It begins, in the courtyard of the local Church of the community of Forno Grande, until the top of the hill denominated Thanks to God. There are fourteen stops symbolizing the suffering of Jesus until the crucifixion. The faithful, earnestly, carry a wooden cross that is planted at the top of the hill. The exuberant landscape makes the Way of the Cross one more favorable and pleasant moment to thank for the rich gift we have received from God in our city of Castelo.
It brings together people of all ages and from various places. Idealized by the late Professor John Casagrande, the aim is to make the Passion and the Resurrection of Christ a memory of penance; honor the people who were born and died in the region; show and analyze the difficulties experienced by rural workers; reflect on the importance of Community Life; there is also reflection on the Fraternity Campaign being this year: “You will be liberated by right and justice.” (Is 1,27) and other reflections according to the present moment and needs of the people.
