Due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus and the recommendation for people not to crowd, there will be no traditional carpetmaking at the “Corpus Christi de Castelo” party.

The party, which this year will take place on June 11th, will be celebrated only with religious programming, which will still be defined and disseminated by the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Penha, the event’s organizer.

“The making of the carpets is canceled, but the masses we will have in principle and the procession, if there is release. We have to wait for the disease to evolve, ”explained the parish priest, Frei Antônio Rabanal Bueno.

According to the Municipal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Fabiano Davel, this year the tourist and cultural program that takes place parallel to the event will also not happen. This is another measure to prevent the spread of the virus in the municipality ”.

Fruit of the faith and the work of almost 3 thousand volunteers, the event attracts 70 thousand people every year to see the art of making carpets, which add up to one and a half kilometers through the central streets of the city. The festival is considered one of the most beautiful religious festivals in Espírito Santo.
